Me wantsa new router

My current router is a Linksys BEFSR41 v2, has given me a lot of problems in the past (still does) and i want to get a different one. Since i wasn't happy with this router i was thinking about getting a non-linksys router, but maybe just the model i had was bad, so i'm not really against going with a Linksys router again. There are 3 computers in this house. The router doesn't need to be wireless, wires are already strung through the house. I think i read most wireless routers can be used as normal 'wired' routers as well anyways.

I was looking at this one - It looks nice, and it's only 2 friggin bucks. Then again, it's only 2 friggin bucks, why it's so cheap i don't know, maybe it's not too good.

I'm going to bed for now, so i don't feel like doing research, i'm sure you guys will recommend some good ones

I'm on cox cable if it matters.

heh - that's the router I have.
Trust me, it's really not worth the 2 friggin bucks.
All the aggravation I have experienced with mine... really - I don't reccommend it.

Well, if you want to try a different brand, CompUSA has a good rebate deal on this Netgear: MR814 Cable/DSL Wireless Router, 802.11b

My experience has been with D-Link; I had a DI-604 that I used for over 3 1/2 years and was problem-free until near the end when it failed. I then bought a DI-524 wireless; I've had it for about 3 months and have had no problems.

It $2 because it is 802.11b. I.e almost two generations ago.

If you do not care about Wireless, or need Wireless tfor very short range and Internet surfing only it is a Good deal.

I guess Steam doesn't get along with the BEFW11S4 either, plus Wiz didn't recommend it, so i'll stay away from that one. I'll do some research on the MR814, though it looks like a pretty old router as well. Doesn't look like it has enough ports for 3 computers (after looking at it for 5 seconds). Anyways, i'll check it out, thanks.

bump. Any other recommendations? Are some routers actually faster than other or is that all just a bunch of BS? Still considering the MR814 linked above.

Still looking for any recommendations, really hard to find router recommendations for wired routers. I don't want to succumb to Steam's idioticy and have to downgrade my current router's firmware so i can play CS - This router has other problems too like i said, so i'd really like to find a different one if i could.

You can always get a wireless router and disable the wireless.

The D-Link DGL-4100 is a wired-only version of the DGL-4300.

careful with the cheapie compusa routers. I bought one for 4 bucks six months ago and just had it die the other day. The only problem is it didn't actually die. The wired connections got really slow on the network and the same for the wireless. After 4 hours of me testing computers, ethernet cables and routers. I finally figured out it was the netgear acting as the problem.
