He'd only been posting a month... and he was a great guy, with a legitimate question.
Unfortunately, he posted it to the wrong forum. Not just a related forum, but to OT.
After three weeks of membership he'd only made two posts.
He has dial-up 56k, which also didn't help.
So I saw the writing on the wall - this guy was going to cause ATOT trouble by constantly asking productive tech questions instead of the completely useless banter we're used to.
So I got home one pensive night and sent him a PM discussing these things...
Now I've never actually chatted with this guy... second hand stories, mostly, about how he had no regard for proper forums. One time he asked an OS question in general hardware, just out of spite, saying Linux was "dead to him" and shoving it into the recycle bin. So when I heard that I realized two things:
1) My worries about this poster were confirmed - he didn't care about the forum structure
2) He hadn't read my PM yet and was calling to cry about his Red Hat install.
Well I let him cry about it for a while.
So I did.
I explained what I thought about *nix
And, surprisingly, he rose to Windows' defense.
The PM ended with him yelling "NOOB! NOOB!" in the background.
This is all a bit much for me to handle. I'm beginning to hate myself, because I've gone from "that guy" who hated Micro$oft to the one who uses Windows anyway for ease of gaming... But I'm not sure that I like myself anymore... that make sense?
(I'm very sorry, I tried to stop but my hands would have no part of that and my keyboard goaded them along)
