ME or 98SE? or XP?

I'm redoing a computer for a friend of mine -- she has an HP P3-700 with 128MB RAM. The system came installed with Windows ME and she's had alot of problems with it. As it stands now it's a mess of driver conflicts and I'll be wiping everything out and reinstalling. My question is, is there any benefit to ME over 98SE? It's the one Microsoft OS I haven't ever used on a personal system. I don't think 128MB RAM is adequete to run XP properly, so maybe I go with 98SE? Comments? What would you guys do here? (Upgrading RAM is not an option at this point, she doesn't have the money to buy more RAM).

Awesome, thanks guys -- exactly what I expected to hear. Nice to confirm that I was probably right for wanting to avoid WinME.

128MB of RAM is enough to run XP, more RAM definately helps, but you're not going to be seeing an hour glass icon every mouse click.

The eye-candy should be disabled though.
