In the sentence, "Although she herself was free, ..." is free an adjective? And if so, does it modify she or herself?

In "General Harriet" (it is actually in parentheses in the sentence also), is General an adjective or a proper noun?

I believe that "General Harriet" is a noun even though it's made up of two words. Probably a proper noun.

Thanks for the help.

I know how to spell "grammar" correctly, but I wasn't really paying attention. I wood get it write on a speling test tho.

BTW: "Probably a proper noun," is a sentence fragment. :p
