My stepdad decided today that he didn't want his 12 string anymore since he hasn't played it in ages and its just sitting around collecting dust, so he asked me if I'd like to have it or if I know anyone I could sell it to so I could use the money towards getting myself something better. I was thinking of keeping it but then I thought to myself that I already have an acoustic guitar, I've been wanting an electric for a while now, and that I would use an electric a lot more than the 12 string.

So, I took the 12 string up to a used guitar shop and checked out what they had in there, and traded up for this:

Its a Samick RL-1 Semi-hollowbody. I had never played a semi-hollow guitar before, but I'm so glad I played this thing before buying the mexi-strat I had my eyes on. This guitar practically plays itself. Its got this great resonant tone to it that is just begging for some blues licks, the pickups are great, the frets are even and without sharp edges, and I gave it 2 good hits on the neck with the palm of my hand and it was still in tune, always a sign of quality construction. Going from my cheapo Epiphone acoustic to this thing is like going from 56k to DSL, I haven't been able to put it down since I got it. Sure, its no ES335, but for only $50 out of my pocket, I can hardly complain. In fact, I haven't been this happy since.. well... since I got my first acoustic 🙂

Anyway, I know this has no bearing on your day to day life, but I thought I would share my joy with you 🙂

And on that note, since I'm sure people have got some new gear since the last time one of these 'show your guitar' threads popped up, so how about you guys share some pics of your gear?

I have a super old like 1960-75 ish silvertone with sears amp lol it was my uncle's. It is a p.o.s. but i play my roomates guitar its an acoustic and its pretty sweet, its a taylor. Im pretty good at the guitar for only playing like a couple of weeks 🙂

My everything:

one
two

It does everything I need it to, any style I want.
Dual scorching humbuckers w/ 3 way switching
Master tone/volume
Tone control has push/pull coil tapping to split phase for each pickup to single coil

are you a girl?

I see a cabbage patch kid type doll in the corner and your room looks like it has a lot of pillows/linens.

What sort of guitar would you guys reccomend for a n00b? My old girlfriend was learning how to play when we were going out, and I loved listening to her play. I miss that, but I've also thought about learning to play a guitar myself for a long time - if only just to play some of the Classic Rock tunes that I listen to so often. Suggestions?

Name some bands..

You really can't go wrong with a stratocaster for any style unless you want to shred 🙂

That's what I was thinking - someone let my girlfriend borrow a strat for a couple weeks once, and I *loved* how it sounded, especially when she was just practicing without an amp. Much better than her original Ibanez, IMO.

As far as bands: I'm thinking mid to late 60's through early 80's type stuff: Eagles, Beatles, ZZ top, Dire Straits, Grateful Dead, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, BOC...the list goes on, but that should give you an idea 🙂

If you liked the way the strat felt and sounded go for it, the bands you listed have different guitars/sounds which perhaps something with two humbuckers might better emulate, maybe an ephiphone les paul model if you're on a budget. Those are notoriously uncomfortable though from what I remember. The best advice is to go play it, and make sure you can live with the sound/feel

NTB if you want to chat more about it in depth or whatever my aim is in profile, or you can PM me, I'll be back tonight but I'm sure we can find a guitar for you
