ME: How to control how Win Explorer opens?

I recently got a new hard drive and after a clean install when I open windows explorere it has the "My Documents" folder expanded, which I don't like because I use a lot of subfolders and so I have to compact it each time. Is there a way to control which files WE opens expanded or closed? Thanks in advance.

Shoot thought I might of had an answer, I am living with it. Just seems wrong somehow when their is something on your computer you want to change and can't.

I use WinME And use Power Desk Explorer instead of Win Explorer. When I open it, it remembers how you left it upon shutting it down, not to mention all the other bells and whistles that come with it.

It has a nifty file size icon that when activated will scan the drive selected and will tell you the size of every folder on that drive.

Very cool and useful program, I hate Win Explorer!!!

I use Power Desk Explorer too and I like it much better than Windows Explorer, but you can create a shortcut for Explorer and use command line switches to have it start wherever you want in the file system hiearchy, here is a link for the switch parameters to use.

Here is your solution. I read this in PC magazine awhile back, their website has lots of good windows tips.
Make a new shortcut on your desktop/quick launch bar. The shortcut is:

explorer.exe /e,/select,c:\directory

where c:\directory is any folder you want explorer to start in.
you can further customize this to only allow folders under the specified path be available:

explorer.exe /e,/root,c:\directory

I know for a fact this works in 2000/NT, haven't tried it elsewhere.
