ME has possessed my machine

I just installed WinMe. At first it would try to dial into the internet on its own. I may have solved that by disabling all the automatic features. But the CD Rom keeps opening! I close it and 30 seconds later it opens again. Any ideas?

I have a solution. DUMP it . and reinstall 98se. Thats what I would do.

or do a fresh install and then add the WinME upgrade.
 
It may be that you have a back door program something like netbus. Make your you dont have a virus as well.
 
I would format the thing and do a complete clean install again... with all these programs it will take you forever to solve them one by one... even if you manage to get them all, performance may be compromised by a lot... Just do a clean install and hopes everything goes away...

Hopefully, you performed the update with the option to save your previous version. As indicated above, a full install might be in the makings. However, if you don't have time to do the full install, step back to the previous version. Good luck!
