ME, Good or bad?

Most likely you're right. I had the same thought but couldn't be sure which they were promoting or bashing. Hey, I think win2k is good and solid also but for "most" non-zealot types, XP is the answer instead because if it's ease of use and increased driver support; as you stated. I was stubborn about switching from 98SE but am glad I did. I went to 2K and then straight to XP in just a few days. Happy now! 😀

act like ME doesn't exist. it is basically windows 98SE with some worthless junk that hogs system resources, etc. get xp if you want an os.

NoxPT,

Hasn't anybody told you yet that if you hang out here at Anandtech you'll end up a propeller-head like your old man???

Remember... You've been warned!

it was funny: a long time ago in a university far, far away, my whole hall upgraded there machines from 98 to ME. within 3 DAYS ALL of us were either back on 98 or to the new-fangled *ahh* win2k (which later led to XP when it came out).

from then on the worst slur anyone could make was "you suck more than ME"

If you know the limitations of WinME, then no problems, it is a fine OS, just at times isn't backwards compatible with programs/drivers that ran fine on Win98SE, but at the same time may be more stable than its predecessors.

If they had a choice between operating systems to choose from, then I would say WinME is....BAD.

from a range of 0-10 (0 bad , 10 best)

win2k - 10
winxp - 8

win98 - 5
win95 - 2

winME - (-1)

linux - suse8 simplicity 10
