well, I remember buying the PS1 and I needed an adaptor to plug in some RCA cables to my TV.

so is this the same case with the PS2? I don't wanna buy it and go home to see I have to go back for some more stuff.

so what are the necessities?

EDIT: I'm gonna watch DVDs on this too... so I'll probably be hooking it up to my receiver via optical toslink (audio) and s-video.

EDIT2: I plug it in with an optical audio cable to my receiver and my receiver reads everything from the PS2 as 2channel. Even when I dump a DVD movie (pearl harbor) in there, I still get 2 channel sound only. I played with the audio settings on the DVD, but still no help... can anyone solve this problem?

buy the dvd remote.official
an s video cable
and some games 🙂
i have two svid cables the official and the pelican...there isnt a huge difference between the two...
edit....of course buy a mem card as well...either a madcatz or sony...he only two liscensed ones i know of.

PS1 cards work in PS2 for PS1 games...not for PS2 games.

Also, don't forget you get a free rental with your receipt at Blockbuster. At least, I think that deal is still going on.

It allows RCA out of the box but for coaxial you need a convertor and for component or S-video you need a new cable.

looks like I'll be spending a bit more money than anticipated.
so I'm seeing right now:
PS2
extra controller
memory card
s-video adaptor
toslink optical audio adaptor (or coaxial)

what else?

Ensure your TV has an S-Video input before you buy the cable. It looks somewhat like PS/2 mouse or keyboard connector.

get a gameshark version 1.9 and do knife swap method so you can play backups and not void your warranty teeheee heee
