just passed my first mcp test 70-210 win2k pro test today by using sybex study guides..
i am also taking actual mcse courses but the official ciriculum has alot of holes in it.. and considering that im on the 5th book (the implementing win2kpro/server book was like the 2nd one, so i dont remember much of the class material) i basically relied on the sybex book for the test..
lol, funnny thing is that i started really studying the sybex book on thursday (3 chapters) and the rest all of yesterday (12 chapters).. so im quite pleased that i passed.. not a really high score,, but at least over 540.. all that matters is that i passed right?
i found that the format of the questions for the actual MCP test (while more difficult) matched those of the Microsoft press MCSE Readiness Review book.
not sure about tapes.. since you reference something with it.. but i guess if you're fiancee is unfamilar with win2k it would provide a good basic understanding of the material, and then use the sybex books/mcse readiness review books to supplement/use as a reference..
i cant say that the $9000 im spending on the actual courses (9 month program, 2 days a week) is worth the money, but i can say it did help in the basic understanding.. then again, i probably should be studying more for that class (sort of a slacker)..
my bro works for a co. that has access to NETg CBT's for basically every certification you can think of.. mcse, cisco, citrix, novell, etc... so ill be using that as a supplement for my next test..
