MCSE Book Recommendations

Hey All,

Work has agreed to buy me a set of books to study for my MCSE and reimburse me for any tests I take and pass so I'm going to start taking some tests since I want my MCSE by the end of this year.

I have 4 years of experience in the field as well as a Computer Information Systems degree so I know quite a bit but obviously there are things I need to brush up on.

Can you give me your recommendations on books that worked well for you in your studying process? I want to get started as soon as possible.

Also, what order would you recommend taking the tests in? Any tests better/easier to take first? 🙂

Thanks,
Ethan

Just buy an individual book for whatever test you're taking. Read it and do the review questions, then go to a brain dump site and get all the info you can. This was my strategy and i usually got a 950/1000 avg on my exams.

My experience so far, the MS Press books are hit or miss. I also am studying (passed 70-290 2 weeks ago). The 70-291 book is MUCH better than the first book. For the money (~$120 at Amazon for the 4 core books) you can't beat it.

Others that have completed their MCSE might have more information to share, but that so far is my experience.

I'm currently reading off the MS Press books. It definitely helps if you have access to a domain to test this out on, instead of setting all that crap up by hand. (It takes some time unfortunately)

Raging*,

I'm going to setup a domain at my house with VM ware to test everything out on. It shouldn't be too bad and it will just help in the long run to have a domain at home, which is something I've been meeting to setup for awhile 🙂

Looks like I'll go with the MS books.

Thanks!
Ethan
