Well, "censorship" gets used in different senses. The nature of the complaints from the right about private companies doing it implies it's being used in the stronger sense. In its broadest sense our entire economic system is dependent on it - to do anything about it would mean doing away with the concept of private property. So you seem to be playing word-games. Quibbling, even.

"Censorship" is one of those words, like 'respect' , that has a strong and a weak sense, and as with that word, a lot of arguments revolve around people muddling up the two senses.

People are very fond of posting definitions from reference sources, while failing to understand that written definitions are not the be-all-and-end-all of discussions and usually fail to capture every nuance of actual usage.

Frankly, it hits home. As usual, the Conservatives cries come from unambiguously faux concern. As a person raised evangelical, I've seen censorship abound in the Conservative world. I challenged many of my taught "beliefs" and silenced everytime. You can see the same thing in our country in many ways. Even more so in other countries, because when I say conservatives, I don't just mean Christians.

So now, when social media platforms force users to adhere to a ToS that doesn't allow for hateful words or intentionally spreading misinformation, we all get to beat this dead horse over and over again, because somehow Conservatives think that's going to change things.
