MCE2005 -- needs install cd to boot from HDD??

My cousin got Media Center 2005 and I helped him install it onto his SATA Raid 0 system. We had to do the "press f6 for 3rd party scsi & raid...blah blah blah" and it went smoothly and everything.

after getting into windows for the first time, i removed the install cd and we activated windows etc, and then rebooted.

after POST and before the windows splash with the progress meter, his pc says "no boot device." the raid bios/config stuff is still on the upper portion of the screen and says that the array is bootable.

after a few minutes, i figured i'd pop in the media center cd just for the hell of it...and the harddrive boots.

is this normal?!?!?

He had xp running before from the same raid array and we havent changed the bios since then. I checked and its still the same. First boot device is CD and the second is "intel zoom" which seems to be the RAID. Its a dell dimension 8400 bios revision A06. Any ideas?
