Can this o/s be used as a standard o/s also, can you use office apps, internet, mail etc. How about games?
 
Yes on all counts. It's just XP Pro (minus some network stuff, like domains) with a fancy frontend designed to be used on a TV.
 
okay Stash, have you a quick run-down, I am looking to build a shuttle pc for a friend who is getting a motor home, he will want to use the lcd/tv with it. I thought MCE would be okay, not sure about games. Other thought was to make a dual boot system for him with XP / MCE.
What do you think?
 
Yes, you can use MCE as a home computer. It will run all apps XP Pro/Home will use. That includes games.

For the average home user, you would never know it is MCE. Yes, I have one, yes I can play games on it. It is not a matter of it being built on Pro or Home, it is MCE. They are all XP, but different options.
