Hey guys,

I just did a little upgrade to my system..

P4 550 775
Asus P5P800

I am going to reinstall and i was wondering if I should try this MCE 2005 out that i have a copy of. My tv tuner is a Leadtek XP Deluxe that is not compatable with MCE. I have heard that MCE edition is actually faster at boot and other things. I also found out that MCE still supports remote desktop access which I do use often.

Let me know if i would be missing anything either way?

Windows MCE is Windows XP SP2 with an additional application. Its not faster or slower..

The advantage might be, if you really like Remote Desktop, but your currently using XP Home... yes MCE does have Remote Desktop.

If your tuner is not compatible with MCE 2005, then you should wait. You are better off with XP Pro tweaked and all the extra software installed that YOU choose.

I was running XP Pro at home and just reinstalled...MCE 2005 is cool! I haven't even upgraded my tv tuner card yet so I'm just enjoying the music features, etc. I'd say go for it.

I just upgraded from Pro to MCE 2005. Im not really using the computer as a HTPC, I dont even have a tuner card (planning to buy one) but I can see the benefits of using a wireless mouse or remote control to watch movies on my pc. I really like the slick media center interface. Regarding speed I didnt notice much of a difference.

I'd say go for MCE unless you have a specific reason NOT to... You may at some point in the future want to pick up an MCE-compatible TV tuner card, and if you do, you'll love the Media Center app.

I think that one is slightly broken. It doesnt change two or three things, not a huge deal.. but it was annoying me. I extracted the actual them from MCE 2005, and am using it on XP Pro without problems..

See here.

Out of curiosity, what is different? Just wondering if I should install the theme from the link you provided...
