Back in high school I used to live off those $1 chicken sandwiches from Carls. They used to have tomato, lettuce, cheese, and a quality chicken patty on a sesame seed bun.

After a while they got rid of the cheese.
Then they got rid of the tomato.
Then they started using a cheaper plain bun.
Then the chicken patty quality turned into crap.
Then they downsized the bun and the chicken.

I had 2 Bacon club houses for lunch today cause of the 2 for 1 coupons i got. Could not help but notice the $5 double quarter pounder with cheese.The bacon club house is a overall better burger and its $4.10.

I notice they did this with the buck double too,it was a buck then hit $1.19 but the regular cheeseburger is like $1.50 i think.

According to this link, it looks pretty close to mirror inflation, with the exception of people making more money have had a purchasing power increase, while those making less have had it stay relatively the same.

Well that depends on the timescale being discussed,

Over the 50 year timescale all income levels have seen some growth, strongest in the top, and weak in the middle, and the bottom has been moved up more due to minimum wage and other programs that disincentivize working at the very bottom.

However, if we look at the 15 year timescale (more in line with the chicken sandwich being $1 in 2003 and $1.50 now) there have been losses across the board, but largest in the bottom 60%.

So, yes, the chicken sandwich is relatively more expensive at all pay scales.

Sunday, I had been working outside all day, and needed to drive to town to buy a replacement hammer. While there, since I hadn't eaten all day, I decided to get a cheeseburger at BK. I looked at it for a couple moments, thinking, "wow, these things are a lot smaller than I remembered them." I very rarely get food from BK, except perhaps a coffee if I'm on the road. So, I was left wondering, did BK corporate make the change very very gradually, hoping no one noticed? Or, was it just a sudden change where they reduced the size by about 30%?
