McDonald's Monopoly - I must be missing something, what is it?

So I have played all my pieces obtained through B&M, & was browsing through the rules/T&C/etc.

You can request the following with one SASE (total $0.74 postage):

One Game Piece (two game stamps)
One Chance Piece (two game stamps, one BestBuy Chance)

Now there are $1 and $3 BestBuy Bucks, with a 1 in 3 chance of getting a $3 piece. So every request for free game pieces has an expected value of 4 game stamps (dice roll + move for the online game, plus the property for offline) and $1.66 in BestBuy bucks.

Anybody else see the potential here? You're guaranteed to more than double your money, & you can request as many as you want. Plus with that many dice rolls you're virtually guaranteed to win something online.

So what am I missing?

I am reminded of a simpsons episode where he went to come carnival and traded his money in for money that could only be used in the carnival, only to find out no place in the carnival accepted that cash,

Wow, that explanation was too long...wish I had the clip

Where did you get 1.66 in BestBuy bucks from? Did you not learn to show your work?

If the odds are 1 in 3 of winning 3 dollars, then you'd have to spend on average 2.22 in stamps to win one 3 dollar BestBuy bucks. Only getting 88 cents in immediate returns (not considering how often you might win 1 dollar). Plus the costs of envelopes. 🙂 The dice roll and other stuff would of course allow your profit to go up.

They depend on not many people noticing that the rules would allow you to do something like that. And those that do notice, think "there must be some reason I can't do this". And the ones who realize there isn't anything to stop them, mostly don't think it's worth their time to actually do it, and anybody that starts, eventually stops before really making a serious dent in the odds of winning.

Sorry, should have explained that better.

Every BestBuy Chance has at least $1, 1 in 3 has $3.

So for every 3 stamps that's $5 in value, divided by 3 = $1.66.

have fun writing those all out...

That's the only place I'm seeing a problem, in one place it says the envelopes must be printed, in another it says no mechanically reproduced submissions.

Are you hand writing all of them or have you tried printing?

What kind of response time are you seeing?

printed... as in printed instead of cursive. printed... handwriting. printing...

Not much of a "chance" card when you're guaranteed to get at least a dollar. They should have also hooked up with the RIAA, so that occasionally you'd get a Chance card that says "go directly to jail you dirty music pirate".

Funny, the BestBuy Bucks chance cards aren't available at McD's that are in Walmarts.

The SASEs have to be hand written, but the outter envelopes can be printed. Response time is slow. I have not received any yet and my first batch went in over a week and a half ago. The game doesn't end on the 31st, all requests have to be in by the 31st though.

If you want to see a more detailed discussion, check out the thread in HD and this one. Probably all of the questions you have have been answered. Feel free to ask me any questions though.

Interesting, the forums censor ****** in my link

edit: ack, here too.

edit2: go to the first link in my sig and search for the thread # I posted earlier.

Doh that's what I get for trying to think this through at 4 AM.

I really am late to the party for this year but I'll try to get some out tomorrow.

Next year I'll be ready.

The only "bad" part is hand writting the SASEs. I do mine at work and get paid. 🙂

i dont think they hold those monopoly games every year... more like every 3

Viper, I also suggest you read rules before you dive in. Like, you can only use $3 of best buy bucks on CDs/DVDs. No video game hardware(aka no xbox 360). No giftcards, no bose, no apple. Only $300 per visit. Plus some others

Yeah I already read all that, no issues there.

With so little time left it may not be worth my effort though. From the thread you posted the online game doesn't seem to add a whole lot of value to it.

I don't even bother with the online game. You can enter a max of 10 codes a day and usually win free print.

Like everyone else said, just the fact that you have to hand write all the envelopes which most people don't want to take the time to do. But if you did, you'd definitely come out ahead even ig you only got all $1 BB bucks.

And I know the4y say it's 1:3 to get the $3 one, but I've only gotten 2 or 3 of them and we've been to mcDonalds way more times than that.

However, I printer an envelope in a blue pen and then scanned it in on our color printer/scanner at work. Then from that I printed 9 more out and they all looked pretty good. So I sent in 10. We'll see what happens.
