McDonald's hasn't updated their ketchup packet design since 1986?!

I don't go there often but I don't remember them looking like that. I wouldn't eat those.

And now you know... the rest of the story. A nod to the minutia of the late great Paul Harvey. :)

What makes it fancy is the cost of putting your logo on it. Any idea how expensive it is to put your logo on all the paper products, condiments and, instore marketing? Try 90% of your advertising budget.

Those ketchup packets can survive a nuclear holocaust. I have some in my fridge that have probably been there since I bought the house. First time I see "Fancy" ketchup though. :p

BTW, what makes ketchup "fancy"? :hmm:

It's a term that any manufacturer of USDA Grade "A" ketchup can use. Grade "A" is "Fancy," Grade "B" is "Extra Standard," and Grade "C" is "Standard."

Manufacturers are not required to use the terms, however.

The contents will change soon. McDonald's is dumping Heinz. Heinz sold out to Buffet/3G. 3G owns Burger King.

Actually, now you are going to notice that almost all ketchup ever is labeled "fancy."

I am surprised they changed it as recently as 1986?

What did it look like before that?

McDonalds only used Heinz in two american markets. Those are Minneapolis and Pittsburgh. Everywhere else in the US has not used Heinz since the 1970s to early 1980s(McDonalds started phasing out Heinz in 1973/1974). So those two markets are getting switched over to what every other market has already been using for up to four decades. Its a private formula for McDonalds that is manufactured by several different manufacturers.

For the record. Theres almost zero difference between Heinz and McDonalds ketchup. That said Whataburger ketchup > any other ketchup by many times over.

A few other places have been using the exact same packs as long as they have. I thought it was weird that they promoted it as kinda "their" thing.

Its merely Heinz's packaging that they forced on most restaurants. Chikfila was the first adopter, since then most places that use Heinz(other the BK) use the new packets. Some BKs currently use the new packet, all will sooner or later.

Now we gotta ask what Grade A, Grade B, and Grade C refer to...
