This should be required reading for all americans. Everyone I've known so far has found it pretty interesting to say the least (and many of them eat fast food).

Especially the chapters on how they market to children (who grow up to be adults who take their own children to places like McDonalds).

You think the "meat" they put in the "sausages" are any different from the "meat" they put in the "hamburger patties"?

So this deal happens every Wednesday in Texas? I wasn't aware of that.....can someone confirm that this happens in Austin? I don't ever recall seeing anything of this sort.

why must you bother pushing that crap on us? How are you any better than fast food chains! Any bets that the author of that book was not allowed to eat fast food as a child because it was the devils food?

Hey Wiz kid, wake up and smell the coffee. He's not "pushing" anything onto anybody, but rather giving you the option of being an informed consumer. It doesn't just end with food either...you wouldn't believe the chemicals in our daily toiletries...aluminum in deodorant(causes cancers and mental disorders), fluoride in toothpaste(Yes, good for teeth, BAAAADDDD for body, it's a poison people, read up on it)...petroleum byproducts in shampoos, animals fats in soap(Yes, it's true, you are "cleaning" yourself with animal fat). The point of all this isn't to "scare" you into not using/buying/eating things, but to show you that you do have a choice to use products that do not harm your body. By lending a deaf ear to issues like this, people effectively accept that their health is compromised because of some corporations bottom line, but it's okay, because it tastes and smells good!!! We are in the age of information people, take a little time and look things up for yourself...you know how to use Google.

Thought I'd toss this quote out too...

"The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with
drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition." Thomas Edison

And also, if you want to think about it, take a look at this page of quotes(I just found it when I was looking for the Edison quote).

Edit: Another link that takes the "common sense" approach to understanding why things are the way they are. There is a reason we are sicker as a nation than we ever have been in the past... http://juiceguy.com/doctor.shtml

Yeah, be more clear reset, what are you trying to say, that we should eat in moderation or stop eating fast food all together.
People spent a whole day, every day, of their miserable lives hunting for crappy food for thousands of years, and I'm supposed give up a Junior Big Mac, medium fries and a medium drink for less then $3 with tax because some fat %&@# can't seem to put the fork down? Moderation is the key here and we all win, right?

I guess some people slept through high school chemistry. **HINT** snynder81 **HINT** Fats = lipids. Soap = hydrolysized lipids. Its ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY.
Would you prefer to wash yourself with alcohol instead? We know fast food is bad; if you think no one here knows that, you are are damned ignorant.
Oh yeah, nutrition doesn't protect against smallpox, aids, cancer, alsheimers, etc etc.
And great job on pulling up quotes from Edison, even though it doesn't make you look any smarter.

Let us enjoy our fast food. We know its bad for us. But it tastes good, its cheap, and its fast. I dont think its worth wasting time now when I'm young just to live 5 years longer, when I can spend the equivalent not having to worry about this.

Someone needs to make some of these people listen to George Carlin or something.

Yeah, fast food is bad.

Charred meats from BBQ can cause cancer.

Blah blah blah.

Do people who eat "healthy" live long? Sure, some do. Do people who bathe in crisco live long? Yup, some of them do. Are you more likely to live longer if you don't eat at McDonalds every day? Probably. Are you likely to live longer if you don't use deoderant? Or soap?

Uhhh...

Steve, take a look at your statement. What do you think causes these illnesses? I know it's hard to fathom, but do you suppose that all of these diseases are symptoms of a greater problem? A body absolutely cannot perform to it's potential when you supply it with crap(e.g. McDonald's) to work with. You can't feed a body $hi+ and expect it to not get sick. The whole problem with modern medicine, particularly cancer treatments, are that the focus is on eliminating the symptoms, NOT the initial problem that is causing the illness. Think about it...when a doctor sees a tumor he thinks, "Hmm, we should either poison it with radiation or else go in and surgically remove it." Those are both fine, but even if they work, they don't eliminate the reason WHY the body is generating bad cells(see cancer). A tumor is the body's way of holding bad cells hostage so they don't invade the body...it is your own body PROTECTING you from bad cells trying to get into the body. I agree that ridding the body of a sac of bad cells is a good idea, but the focus of medicine should be to rid the body of whatever is generating bad cells(Generating bad cells ->See unhealthy body -> unhealthy body -> Seebad or improper nutrition

Anyway, you get the point. If you disagree, I would love to see you refute these statements. Think about it...you can't put sugar in a gas tank and expect an engine to perform it's best, it just doesn't work that way.

BTW, I am absolutely not a radical about this stuff by any stretch of the imagination, but I do feel that people should at least have the choice of understanding what is put into their bodies without them knowing it and how it can adversely affect them.

And I also listen to George Carlin at times ;)

Do some research people, get informed!

This is a Hot Deal if you consider it as a long-term investment. Eat fast food everyday, in 20 years you'd become a millioner courtesy your trial lawyer.

Had to pipe in on this.

The life expectancy of humans is much, much, much higher than it was 100 years ago. Heck, there was a time when 40 was "old age". There have always been diseases, always will be. No matter how "chemical free" "nutritionally sound". Everyone will eventually die. Enjoy life while you can. If that means eating a big mac and fries, go for it. So it takes 5 years off you life. So what? It takes it off the end anyway. It's not like your gonna miss 'em. You're not going to wake up one day and realize you lost the last 5 years. "hey, where did the last five years go? Damn, I knew I shouldn't have eaten that big mac!"
