McDonalds will look to tap into Canadians patriotic nostalgia this winter by re-introducing our home and native poutine to its menus across the country (!), once again bringing a regional delicacy to the masses. Recently, the burger and fries chain also offered up its take on the East Coast lobster roll (chopped lobster meat on a half slice of white bread, toasted, essentially) across the country. The McLobster (or McHomard, depending where you are) is a regular offering in Quebec and New Brunswick.
The McExtra burger reportedly still pops up in Western Walmart locations, according to Wikipedia, and of course everyone remembers McPizza, if not for its enduring mark on our palates, than more for its sly use of the trademark Ms as cursive Zs. McDonalds also once had a 1967 burger on its menu, not to celebrate the centenary of Canada, however, but in honour of the arrival of its first franchise within our borders.
At press time, weve heard only wild rumours of McDonairs, McTourtiere, McNanaimo Bars, a McOka burger and McMontreal Smoked Meat sandwiches. But hey, we can dream. The important take-out message is that poutine is here we assume for a limited time only but maybe as a permanent item for Canadians outside Quebec, and its made with french fries, gravy and real cheese curds, at least the last time we checked. How does the Twitterverse feel about this gut-busting development? See below. But more importantly, we want to know how you feel, so please answer our poll.
