Yep, I didn't stutter. The prick just said "African American voters vote just as high a percentage as Americans." Also, article has a tweet by Charles Booker of the video.

And Joe Biden says that poor kids are as smart as white kids and something about not being black if you don't support him. It seems that making idiotic statements on race isn't monopolized by the GOP.

Let me explain this away so the media can move on to ignoring the continued destruction of this country by Republicans.

Mitch McConnell was simply speaking to how African-Americans attempt to IDENTIFY themselves separately from Americans, who just call themselves Americans.

This "gaffe" reveals nothing that anyone paying any attention didn't already know, about McConnell. AND it can be used to slide right into how "IDENTITY POLITICS" is destroying the country, and not the Republican Party.

A nice "bullhorn" to alert the fascists that McConnell really is a good fascist, a way to shift into Republican talking points about Democrats and "Identity Politics", and a nice way to BothSidesDoIt™ by reminding people of Biden's gaffes (just look at the shitbag fascist above me).

Triple Republican win.

African-Americans as compared to Americans.

Seems like much ado about nothing. Another way to say it would be

"African-Americans vote just as much as Non-African-Americans".

As I see it he called both groups Americans. Where did he say they weren't Americans?

"I like fruit and I like cherries" implies that cherries aren't fruit.

"I like women and I like Brienne of Tarth" implies that Brienne of Tarth isn't a woman.

"African-Americans vote as much as Americans" implies that African-Americans aren't Americans.

It's not hard to figure out.

I believe when Trump said Nazis were "very fine people" you said "much to do about nothing"

See the pattern?

African - Americans and Americans are both Americans as it says so right there. It only distinguishes the Americans of African decent from all the other flavors of Americans.

It's not hard to figure out...

We also have:
Native Americans
Mexican Americans
Chinese Americans
Japanese Americans
Italian Americans
Greek Americans

On and On... But that doesn't fit the narrative does it.

What is the Immigration Act of 1790?

This 1790 act set the new nation's naturalization procedures. It limited access to U.S. citizenship to white immigrants—in effect, to people from Western Europe—who had resided in the U.S. for at least two years and their children under 21 years of age. It also granted citizenship to children born abroad to U.S. citizens.

The Immigration Act of 1924, or the Johnson-Reed Act, including the Asian Exclusion Act and National Origins Act, was a United States federal law that prevented immigration from Asia and set quotas on the number of immigrants from the Eastern Hemisphere. African Americans are not granted citizenship until the Fourteenth Amendment is ratified in 1868.

So what?

This is 2022 not 1790 or 1924.

And what does any of that have to do with my statement about the various flavors of Americans?

Yep, I didn't stutter. The prick just said "African American voters vote just as high a percentage as Americans."

Would you be less butthurt if he had used a fully formed sentence and said "all Americans" or "Americans in general"?
Given that is how the sentence is read regardless, you'll just have to forgive me in forgoing outrage over a completely benign comment.
McConnell is a massive blight on the Senate, and generally evil power monger, but your attacks on him need to at least be real and logical.
This topic is just slander.

Yes, clearly it is different, though it's a matter of degree. Just demonstrates that racism is present in both conservatives and liberals, but there is a difference in degree.

Implying that 'black' is synonymous with 'poor' is patronising and insulting, but it's not 100% incorrect (the categories do have a significant overlap) and hardly up there with implying that 'African Americans' aren't really Americans.

The two statements maybe also demonstrate the _form_ of racism in the two parties is different. Patronising 'concern' vs complete 'othering'.

Smart people and you understand the implied separation of African Americans from Americans in McConnells comment.

Eh, I hate McConnell as much as the next guy, but he was comparing the voting rate of black Americans to the voting rate of Americans in general. It's like saying I vote about as often "as men do" which could be taken for me not being a man but that isn't really what it means.

Even if you bend over backwards to see it as a 'slip of the tongue', charitably assuming he meant to say 'other Americans', you would think that, given the long history of the US in general, and the right in particular, denying black Americans full rights as citizens, that he'd be extremely careful to say the right thing and not say what he ended up saying.

Unless he just doesn't care, because that history of racist 'othering' isn't that big a deal in his view.
