McConnell : Election security. Questions.

Unfortunately consuming right wing media is equivalent to a bullet to the brain. My point is its hard for me to conceptualize precisely what is going on, I am sure that the stories are correct but I am also sure that Mitch has a reasoning, a narrative, for not moving on election security(what is is? Besides bad dems). Has steps already been taken to secure?
I mean, taken at face value, it sounds like he is leaving the door wide open for Russia to come at it full throttle... Combined with Trumps recent rhetorics one might deduce that they are counting on Russian help to "win" the next election. But that would be treasonous would it not? I can see Trump do and say Trump dumb shit... But McConnell surely must understand that actions has consequences... Is he really inviting Putin in? Someone with insight care to comment? .

Occam's Razor applies, I'd say. McConnell and many other Republicans are interested in holding on to power at all costs, and they will accept anything that lets them stay in office for another few years. Even if it jeopardizes national security and sovereignty.

As far as I can tell McConnell has said nothing about election security he is just silently blocking the bill from moving forward. In the end the only reason he could have would be that he thinks that foreign meddling in American elections will help the GOP and he is willing to sell out America to keep power.

Yup. Does anyone at this point seriously doubt that if Republicans were faced with the choice of lose without foreign interference or win with it that they would choose to lose? Absolutely not. They want to keep that option open.

Today it came out that right wing parties in Italy are getting tens of millions in Russian oil money. Anyone think for a second that our right wing parties aren’t?

That the Repubs have only paid some kind of lame ass mumbling lip service for appearances sake in reference to what Russia did back in '16 is more than enough proof that the party as a whole will gladly accept Putin's help once again.

edit - And besides, hasn't it been previously mentioned in this forum that McConnell is in cahoots with the Russians for building some kind of aluminum processing plant in his home state and that lifting sanctions on Deripaska was part of that plan?

McConnell probably figures the Russians will be back fucking with American headsets in support of Trump, which is fine by him. I don't think he's contemplated some of the other things they may attempt or the time & effort they're likely devoting to it. Hack election offices & mess with the voter rolls to create havoc? Paralyze internal communications with malware? Invade purely electronic systems? Do things none of us have even dreamed up? Of course. They're just in it to fuck us up. It's what they like about Trump. He leads the way.

He knows, but as long as Russia's work keeps the GOP in control of the Senate he does not care how much damage they do to everything else. If democracy does not favor the GOP and the 1% then democracy is the enemy and must be destroyed.
