Considering the many comments I have read here and elsewhere, seems to me that McCain has indeed changed his position on things like robocalls and negative campaigning. One can peruse this site to probably find more examples.

There's nothing wrong with changing your mind in the face of new information, more experience or after extended cogitation on a particular subject, or simply to better serve a changing population/electorate. Being inflexible is not a hallmark of intelligence or maturity.

Anyone who has actually followed McCain (former Arizona residents like myself) knows that he's full of shit.

This is not a simple matter of nuance. This is a matter of McCain fundamentally shifting his alignments in order to make a bid for the presidency. There's no point in denying it when it's the truth.

McCain is an opportunist. He has fundamentally changed since 2000 in order to appeal to the Republican base. This was the only way that he could make a run at the presidency, and it worked. Now there's effectively no way of knowing what he's actually going to do because he only person he really looks out for is himself, as he has demonstrated many times (mmm it's nice to be in someone's pocket when you're in the Senate)

I'm John McCain and I was for 'socialism' before I was against it.

He has done a 180 on so many issues he doesn't even resemble the candidate that ran in 2000. Who knows though, McCain may actually believe he hasn't changed? He is really old and memory goes with age. Maybe he just doesn't remember those maverick days?

I do not think McCain has changed all that much since 2000. He walks a very fine line and needs the support of the GOP. If he is elected, he finally will have a chance to be his own man and get the GWB monkey off his back. Until then, he is very constrained on what he can and cannot do.

I posted six months ago, that he needed to break with GWB after he had the nomination wrapped up, to stand a chance. McCain did not, and now its far too late. Palin got the GOP base charged up, but its come
at a very high price. And the GWB inevitable economic meltdown really killed McCain.

2008: Staunchly pro-life.

2000: Progressive (socialist!!) tax supporter, says that people who make more can afford to pay more.
2008: Bashes the exact same plan as "socialist"

I'd like to believe that, underneath it all it's the same "straight talk" John McCain and that he has just changed his tune to appeal to more Republicans, but he's gone so far over the brink that I cannot, do not, and will not believe that anymore.

There are tons of examples of his changed stance, but, go ahead, explain to me how those changes are "nuances."
