Thought this was interesting. Michigan had been seen as a key state for McCain to be able to win, but I guess they're thinking its a lost cause at this point and are moving all the resources out to focus on OH, FL, and WI.

Can't be positive news (assuming these reports are true) for the McCain campaign.

Well as someone who lives in Michigan and frankly the last few weeks I've traveled a good part of the state, I live in the very blue Metro Detroit region, but travel frequently to Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids which are very usually considered the red part of the state and everywhere I went I saw far more Obama signs than McCain signs on yards, in businesses etc. I really think McCain lost any hope of winning Michigan when he didn't pick Romney as a VP. At least then he might have had a chance in Michigan. Besides that the lack of reaching out to the middle class which in Michigan is suffering badly really hurt his chances.

But good I suppose since Obama can focus elsewhere as well.

Michigan has never been in play for McCain.

somehow I think that the lesson the republican core is going to take from this is that they should have nominated Huckabee and that they need to get more in bed with the base.

That's not true at all. Polling in May had the race a dead heat..

http://latimesblogs.latimes.co...5/barack-obama--4.html

"the overview is the latest state poll aggregates give the current advantage (some of these are within the margin of error) to McCain in Ohio, Florida and Missouri and the advantage to Obama in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin (though McCain led in the most recent poll) and Iowa with Michigan essentially a dead heat. "

Oh I see, you're a Republican in Michigan.

Must be feeling pretty lonely these days.

How many jobs did you ax there?

I'm a Republican? Wow, that'd come as a huge surprise to a whole lot of people that know me.

But hey, nobody's ever accused you of not making wild insane assumptions in your posts on here to attempt to make a coherent point.

Sure, I'd agree that's probably true, but it isn't true to say that "Michigan has never been in play for McCain", because clearly it was and is why they've had Mitt Romney running aroudn all over the state trying to whip up support.

Michigan has voted for a Democrap the majority of pres elections I remem, which looks like back to 92, before that it was repubs. I'm not fond of Obama not wanting to be put the on the voting card earlier in the year.

Either way I don't want to vote for either liar.

McCain needs to pull out of PA as well. He needs to keep Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and Nevada to win. Obama just need all the Kerry states (which he seems to have secured) + Iowa + New Mexico + any of the states mentioned above to reach 269+ McCain has the uphill battle. Interesting times.

1 down 49 to go. THe election is completely lost for McCain, barring any extremely extenuating circumstances.

You're an idiot. Michigan is run by democrats and they have thoroughly screwed up the state for a long time to come. Their only solution to the problem is to elect more democrats!

Not really 1 down. There's about 20 states or so that McCain isn't even trying to compete in. (and Washington DC!) So really, it's about 21 down, 29 to go!

Michigan is a huge battleground state and we are still over a month to go from the election. If McCain really is throwing in the towel there (and that article certainly seems to document it) this is huge, huge news. So big that the Obama campaign will have to ignore it or risk overconfidence.

I dunno about PA. I live in South East PA abt 1 hour south of Philadelphia. The area around ranges from rural to suburban and I see a lot more McCain yards signs than Obama.
