Interesting words coming from McCain.........I agree!

  • Former presidential candidate Senator John McCain said today that the U.S. should place an immediate ban on all Saudi Arabian and Egyptian airliners from landing in the U.S.

McCain, appearing in studio on the Imus Show, told Imus he was outraged that Egypt and Saudi Arabia refuse to share the passenger lists of their airlines with U.S. law enforcement agencies.

The U.S. government uses such lists to track the whereabouts and movement of suspected terrorists.

The influential Republican Senator noted that Egypt is the annual recipient of $2.4 billion in U.S. aid. McCain said the Congress needs to re-evaluate whether the aid should be given under the circumstances.

He also said that the U.S. needed to "encourage more democracy" in Egypt.

When Don Imus remarked that it was "rumored" that Saudi money had been funding terrorist networks, McCain said that there had "certainly been Saudi money involved" with charities linked to the terrorist groups.

McCain pointed out that the U.S. had come to the aid of Muslims on several occasions in recent years, including its defense of Kuwait and efforts to help Muslims in Bosnia and Kosovo

<< The influential Republican Senator >>

I thought he jumped off the Republican boat?

Anyways, I think he is right, if they won't share their passenger lists then screw'em.

We should go a LOT farther than that though.

Deport ALL students, and people with working Visas from terrorist countries like Iraq, Iran, Syria, Afganistan, and Egypt.

Saudi Arabia and Pakestan should be on that list but diplomancy is keeping them from being thorough.

We wont do it but we should.

I DO NOT agree with that. I know a few students at my university that are from the countries you mentioned. They are good people. They should not get screwed in this. Maybe deport some people that are working on visas but there is NO NEED to deport students. They are no threat.

Texmaster I have agreed with most everything you have said in threads but I can't agree with this.

Then we just repectufully disagree. Right now I don't know who to trust and I would rather be safe than sorry.

You just can't hold innocent people responsible because of a few bad apples. We need to do everything in our power to prevent further terrorist acts but we cannot destroy everything we stand for in the process. If we do then the terrorists have already won.

A lot of people from other countries have made HUGE impacts on the US. Take Einstein for instance. Where would we have been without him. We just have to be smart about what we do.

Screw SA and Egypt, don't let them land here.

They need to get a better hold on the VISA situation. I mean, how many of these suspected terrorists are here with expired visas? And how many people are here, period, with expired visas? Getting a visa shouldn't entitle these people to stay here indefinitely. That's a big problem right there. Also, I agree on banning egyptian/saudi airliners from landing here. If they refuse to share pertinent information, allowing us to keep track of these evildoers who reside in their boundaries, the hell with 'em. I think we ought to re-evaluate the massive amount of aid (billions of dollars annually) going to these rogue nations as well. For me, any nation which refuses to cooperate is considered "rogue". We ought not be funding them in any way.

Why will they not share passenger lists? If they won't share lists, no landings. It makes sense to me. What are they trying to hide? Nobody is asking for rectal cavity searches.

Yeah, I agree. In that case, let's ban their flights. Their airlines will suffer somewhat, and they will persuade the governments into it.

I DO NOT agree with this either. This is NOT going to be the solution. If you want to do this, well let's just send all the caucasians out of here too....remember good ole Tim McVeigh? :p This would not make any sense, and it doesn't guarantee any future attacks wouldn't happen. Just like if a hacker wants to get into a system, he will. If a terrorist wants to inflict damage/pain/killings, they will. I will say that there is no easy answer.

I do not agree. Who's next then? Deport all asians? Then russians, europeans and hispanics? Heck, let's go one step further and deport all the immigrants. There won't be an end to this.

any country who refuses to comply with a reasonable measure such as passenger lists should be immediately cut off from all aid, cut off diplomatically by all UN nations, and treated as a hostile nation. Anyone with an expired visa should be deported immediately. Students and workers should be allowed to stay, but if their home nation is considered 'hostile' they should be under some amount of surveilance. We don't have to trample their 'rights' (even though non-citizens technically have no rights), but we need to be safe, and we need to be firm in the fight for international safety.

As guests of the US they are under the same laws.
