McAfee vs Webroot

I have a Webroot 1 year subscription which I bought for $29.99. I have a McAfee 2014 Plus which is lifetime which I bought off of Amazon for $14.99. Which should I use?

Since you already have both, my choice would be to use Webroot for the paid year, and then, possibly switch to lifetime McAfee. That way you get value from both payments. 🙂

Money aside, I would prefer Webroot to McAfee functionally.

Neither, both offer more problems then they are worth. It tells u something if the program requires its own removal tool because of how crappy the program is. I prefer malwarebytes.

I wouldn't use McAfee if you paid me. I have no opinion on Webroot, but I don't buy security software. I have other things to spend money on.

RTP! OP has in hand, two AV packages, and asks which of the two is better. He does not ask for alternative solutions, although they may be better. So, answer the question. Between the two, Webroot and McAfee, which is better?

Weeeebroooooooooot

The answer isn't as obvious as it seems in fact I'd say its about even with maybe a slight edge going to McAfee.

McAfee AV at one time was just plain worthless however since being purchased by Intel it has been improved steadily. I still wouldn't suggest purchasing it if you didn't already own it but its serviceable especially @ $15/lifetime.

Proof of Intels influence improving McRapee? The brand is soiled for me. It was all right in the 90s and the Enterprise version for the early 2000s but its just about more trouble than its worth today. Webroot is up there with the likes of Bitdefender and Kaspersky. Those and Eset are the only AVs worth paying for over Security Essentials.

Before I discovered MBAM I used Spy-Sweeper for years and never had a problem with it so I can't say anything bad about Webroot. (and I didn't)

What I did say was neither one of these programs would be my first choice but from what I've read recently McAfee is much improved since being purchased by Intel.

I wouldn't use either. I would use a mixed secuirty protection using all free applications.

Spybot
Comdo Firewall
Avira or Avast.

I have had too remove tons of viruses and malware from way to many computers using Malwarebytes. All it will do is slow down your computer.

Webroot would be better, but I don't think it would be any better than MSE, it would just slow you down more.

Webroot easily.
If you have used both, you know it.
Webroot is so light in system resources that it barely makes an impact on PC performance.

Webroot, they have a very fast scanner, the program is very light, everything it does it does in the background and it doesn't take any resources at that either.

It does lack some options and features since its so simple and easy to use, but for most people that would be okay.

Otherwise I would just a good firewall like Comodo v7 free firewall and MBAM 2. You don't really need proactive defense, since all it does is basically scan files all the time and use computer resources, making stuff slower.

I use AVG Free
My ISP got me to buy their security package deal for $1 and it comes with McCrappy, I have been wondering if it has changed much since 2000(back then huge problems). I was wondering if it might protect me better than AVG.

Nope, seems just as bad as it always was. Last year received money from some very nice folks due to heavily infected computers "protected" my McAfee. Their browsing habits of course did not help, but I was surprised just how bad things got with no warnings from the av.
