Mcafee help please.

I am trying to install mcaffee 9.0 on a customers machine after removing a virus. All looks fine until i get to the part where i choose my country. then the next screen is basically blank. It has the red right side and the white left side. And it also appears that there could be pictures in the red area, but they are little icons as if the picture wont show up. So basically, with nothing to click on, i am stuck at this point and have to ctrl/alt/del to get out.

The current machine is win98, but i have even had this issue on XP.

The button that i should be seeing is the "next" button, but without it, i am stuck at this point.

any help would be great.

That is probably the world virus map page. Check the HOSTS file (and scroll down if it has scroll room, in case stuff's been hidden down out of sight by a bunch of blank spaces), maybe there's some entries in there to prevent the system accessing McAfee's site for the graphic. Long shot, I know

Also check the Registry key here for any fishy entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun

What virus did the computer have, anyway? Info helps

Do you have any restrictions on ActiveX, any antispyware apps or whatnot that might be blocking it from functioning according to default behavior?

Further down that line of thought: if IE isn't the default browser, try making it the default browser and then run McAfee setup again. I think Schadenfroh mentioned something touching on this, in his McAfee VirusScan review at Schadentech.
