This deal may have limited appeal and a couple of slow paying rebates but I did the following:

Purchase a cpu and mb in-store at Micro Center, applying for a Micro Center credit card at the same time. When you are approved for the credit card they will give you a rebate form for $100.

$60 Soyo K7VME MB (a cheapo mb, but who cares)
$100 AMD Retail 2500
----
$160
$10 Tax
----
$170
-$50 Soyo rebate
-$100 Micro Center rebate
----
$20 Net cost AR
===

If your Micro Center has it in stock, you can also purchase the AMD OEM 2400 mobile (45W) for $90, making your net cost AR $10. My Micro Center did not have the mobile processor in stock. Bummer . . .

I know that the Soyo rebate is at best slow paying, at worst, who knows? Figured this deal was too good to pass up.

BTW - the deal is good through 6/27/04, happy hunting!

Can I get in this deal without a "printed ad"?
Is there an annual fee for the credit card?

I'm in need of a cheap AMD mobo and processor to replace the ancient Pentium 3 in my secondary computer. This would fit the bill perfectly. There's a Micro Center about half an hour away from me. Thanks for the post. I hope this works out.

No fee on the credit card. Buy the advertised matx soyo mb & celeron 2.8 for $130 and make $20 on the deal!

The ad is nothing special, you can pick one up as you enter the store.

Yes! I've been talked into AMD by a fanatic friend of mine and I've heard lots of bad things about Celeron (probably overblown). I don't mind paying a few bucks for a system that will handle my Hauppauge 250 MCE TV capture card and do some processing on the side while I use my AMD Barton primary computer OCed to 3200+ for more interesting things. My P3 667 MHz Coppermine secondary computer chokes on the TV capture card so I need something to take its place (my OCed AMD primary computer sucks down lots of watts and I don't like leaving it running 24 hours a day to capture TV programs). All that's left is to collect my AMD fantic buddy Monday during lunch to make a geek-run to Micro Center (I value his advice - I'm an AMD newbie).

Thanx again for the tips!

Blah, I missed this deal. How come this deal didn't see more activity (posts), seems fiery hot to me.

Is this chip a Barton?

And this MC credit card rebate for $100? It's always on?
