MBR Error 1 on Slave Drive

I have a WinXP computer with 2 hard drives and only one partition on each drive. The primary drive which has WinXP boots up fine if it is the only hard drive connected. As soon as I connect the second drive, I get: MBR Error 1.

Searching on the Net has give me solutions for only the primary drive. What can I do to fix this? Any way I can recover the data on it?
