Hi,

I guess "fdisk c: /MBR" (If c: was the drive you wanted to deal with).

This query would generate more traffic if posted in one of the other more specific forums (i.e. OS) as it is not really "Highly Technical".

Good luck,

Andy

you say " fdisk c: /MBR " ..when i try that.it just reads the a: for a second..then goes back to the a: ..is that the normal process ??? because the drive still wont accept a new install of any os.

and on a side ..note..i've been working on this for 2 days..and the fdisk c: /MBR ..method isnt working..

Here's the lowdown.

i got a new mb a epox 8K7A+ w/raid.Not knowing much about raid..i plugged (2) new maxtor 60 gig HD into the raid slots. We then tried to do a fresh install of XP..which didnt work..we got a error i386/setup.sys (something like that) ..and the xp install stops..it wont even let me get to the ERC..so after that error..we tried 2 other drives and got the same error..So we now have a total 4 drives now that give the same error..i then switch the HD that has a os installed on it into a different machine..the HD had a working copy of xp installed ..once installed in the new machine..it just keeps restarting the box..so now i have 4 HD that wont take fresh installs..nor will they boot the os that was on them before hooking them up to the epox board..anyone have a fix for this problem ??

Hi,

What OS did you have working previously?

Can you "dir" c: to check that it is allocating that letter to your HD and not another IDE device?

What boot disk are you using (Win98SE, WinXP etc)?

If you are trying to use Microsoft fdisk to remove a linux partition then you will have problems. You'll need something like IBM's ZAP or WIPE utilities.

Once we have a few more details we can give a better answer.

Please though, post this in OS or some other forum. It will be locked in this forum before long as it is not highly technical!

See you in another forum,

Andy
