The mag safe charger seems inferior to the old L shaped design. This one sticks out and disconnects too easily! :(

Is there a reason why they went to this design? Is it so cramped inside they had to change the connector type with a smaller interior footprint?

Because they felt like it? Maybe to better differentiate between the new and old?

Also, I thought we (the internet) had agreed on rMBP as the shorthand. We had a meeting about it, there were bagels.

He's part of the rogue faction that ate muffins and preferred MBR-r.

Its slimmer....but then the old one fits the 2010/2011 MBA so... Apple likes frayed cables?

Almost certainly has something to do with the thinner case. I wouldn't go with cheaper to produce at all. Original Magsafe was borderline too thick (I just put one up against the rMBP and the aluminum above and below would have been incredibly thin).

I do agree that it's inferior to the prior connector in connection strength (pops off easily) but I much prefer the original and this generation for having the cord come straight out instead of front or back.

The downside to the old magsafe is it was the same size as a USB plug. It also was so magnetic it would pull staples and other metallic items to it which caused all sorts of chaos.

The new ones are slimmer, but aren't as magnetic. I worked on 2 macbook airs, one with the old and one with the new and neither one was more aesthetic than the other.
