MBP (mid 2012) RAM and SSD upgrade recommendations?

Hi friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have a NON Retina 13inch mid 2012 Macbook Pro with the following specs

13inch non retina screen
9.2 model
2*2 GB Ram = total 4 GB
Processor speed -2.5 GHZ
Processor type - core i5
RAM type - PC3 12800 DDR3L
Standard HD - 500 GB (5400 RPM)

I am looking for suggestion on what and where, preferably online (USA) to buy RAM and a SSD to upgrade my MBP.

The RAM you can get most anywhere online. I would try TigerDirect for the RAM. I have seen pretty good prices lately or even Amazon might have some good deals on it. As for SSD, I would go with Samsung's PM 830 Controller. In my experiences, the default Firmware runs pretty well with Apple's OSX compared to other Controllers. SanDisk is not bad either I just Prefer Samsung.
 
You can get gskill ram. Stay away from pny ram, I've had to RMA two different sets already.

As for SSD, go with Crucial M4. It's a top end SSD for a reasonable price.

Both items can be purchased at newegg or amazon
 
G.Skill is just another assembler. They don't actually make any of the chips. Companies that do are like Crucial (Micron), Samsung, Elpida, etc.

That said, I put Patriot RAM in my old G4 recently, simply because it was the cheapest non-generic RAM I could find at my local shop.

I would also consider an Intel SSD for your MacBook. I put one in my Mac Mini and then installed Trim Enabler and have had no problems at all with excellent performance.
 
For RAM, I've used G.Skill and Corsair (Value RAM series) with no issues.

For SSD, most people seem to either use the Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 series SSDs in their Macbook Pros. Especially the Samsung 830 series since this model (OEM) is what Apple uses for a good amount for their rebranded "Apple SSD". Of course, the Samsung 830's are not as widely available now since the 840 series came out 🙁
