Hi,

Im wondering if I could get some good advice.
I wanna purchase and mainboard and processor for around 200 or less.

AMD PLEASE

What is a nice combo for this? A stable but fast motherboard and the fastest chip I can get for the price.

Any advice is much appreciated.

ASUS A7N8X regular $115.99 and cpu XP2200 or XP2400 $81 or $98 (newegg.com) free shipping on both. I would go for the 2400 myself. A little over your budget, but well worth it.

Edit: Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums :)

I'd say an Epox 8RDA+ $89 & AMD XP2400+ (Retail) $100 = $189 (no shipping charged) from Newegg.com

Personally if I could, I'd pony up another $27 and get the AMD Barton 2500+ (Retail) for $117 which would bring the total to $216 (no shipping again)

paperfist, I agree with the Barton 2500, but I really think the ASUS board is more stable than the Epox. IMO. Go for both !!

Well, I don't normally put stable and ecs k7s5a in the same sentence, but I do have two of them, and under 2000 they are stable, so elfenix, I would have to second that as an option.

Well there is no denying that Asus makes a very solid board, I can?t argue with you on that. But if you read up on the Epox board you'll find that it is a solid performer. It's also very hard to pass up on it if you?re on a budget as well :)

Not sure how Epox or ECS stands on revisions, but you'd want to get the 2.0/C1 stepping if your buying an nForce2 board...
