MBNA is not stupid AT ALL.

Two years back I had no US credit but I called MBNA for a credit card application and they were able to use my Canadian credit score to supplement my non-existent US one. I was rewarded with a $2500 card up front and have since built up a nice credit.

Fast forward to two months back MrsSkoorb goes about doing the same thing exactly and although there were a couple of requests for additional information today she gets a card for $3000. She has a nonexistent US credit score. Like if somebody pulls it they can't even get the record, but now she has a spanking new $3k card.

MBNA rules for the following reasons:
1) Not discriminatory against immigrants with no credit (Capital one sucks for the opposite reason)
2) One-time use numbers
3) They just do

I would heartily advise MBNA's services to anybody.

Another reason MBNA rules:

4) They've been steadily increasing my credit by $500 every 3-4 months.

Same here...

Also, I'm 19 and MBNA helped boost my credit score to 690 in less than a year.

Ah yes me too!!

Not sure her APR. Mine is 12.99. I don't care much since we carry no balance worth mentioning.

If you have a good canadian credit score you just call and apply for a car and specify to the rep that you want your canadian credit used in the application. pass your Social insurance number over, and off you go!

I've had their college credit card for almost three years now. I started with about a $1000 limit and it's up to $5400 now. I don't have any idea what that actually means as far as a credit rating goes, but I assume it's a good thing. Heh.

That actually annoys me whenever that happens but it's also a convenience factor. I guess it boils down to your personal preference.

5) MBNA offers 1 time use cc's (so do Amex and CitiBank).

That is the EXACT reason I closed my account with MBNA. :)

I fail to see why this is a bad thing. You just need to learn to control yourself. Either that, or let the missus handle the money.

Make sure you plan in advance if you pay your statement online. Although they can add to your credit in real time, it takes several days to process a payment. Every other CC I have seen usually posts the same day if you do it early enough.

Hehe :) I find it's a great thing because it increases my credit to debt ration which does have a good benefit on credit rating (up to a point). I know that i can always ask them to lower it if I like, but it's nice knowing that I have $5k (eventually it will be much higher of course) as an emergency if I need it. Also, a couple of times I've had to max my card for 3-4k worth of stuff for a month or so and being near the limit is bothersome. I'd be hard presed to max $5k though, since I know there's no way I could pay it off quickly.

I closed mine because they pre-approved me, I responded to the offer and I was offered a whopping $500 limit.

I wrote a nasty nasty nasty 2 page letter to the CEO, they closed my account citing in their system "Under no circumstance - do not contact customer" hehe I think they got the point across.

MBNA posts a day after you do it as long as you do it before noon EST I think. IE, 10AM on wednesday it will go through on thursday. If you wait until after lunch on wednesday it's considered pre-noon of thursday :)

What I like about CitiBankCards.com is if I make my payment online before 10AM PST it posts the same day.

Of course it takes 2-3 days to debit my CU's checking account but I like that it's applied the same day.

That is not the reason at all.

My reasoning had to do with "available debt", and the impact it had on me getting my mortgage. With MBNA inching up my a credit limit every few months, they kept maxing out the amount of money that lenders would give me unsecured.

When I went to apply for my mortgage, I was initially offered a MUCH lower amount than I should have been with my income. Why? Because even though I had a balance of 0.00, the $12,000 that MBNA extended to me was counted as available debt. Thus, I closed the account.

For some, it may seem like a badge of honour that the CC company is offering you more credit. The way I look at it, if I want them to raise my limit i'll call.

I like that about my citicard. The payment goes through on the citibank side, long before the money is drafted from my checking account. I get to pretend I'm rich for a few days.

Same here and I was a 17-year old in high school, maybe even 16 at the time. :D

I don't use the MBNA card much nowadays though.

I got MBNA Platinum too. Also an immigrant. Also building credit (719/734 score). And they raised my limit to $3k @ 7.9%
Where can I find the 'one time use' numbers?
