Hey Guys,

I am curious...

I was monitoring the stock markets and saw this news:

http://finance.yahoo.com/marketupdate/update

"Between 1:00 and 2:00 ET, it was reported that Goldman Sachs is cutting its growth forecast for motherboard shipments. After the broker reportedly said motherboard demand is "falling off a cliff," ..... "

---------

What do you guys think....I thought now that Dual Cores are starting to come out of the elite closet and come into the general public's hands and interests, shouldnt there be renewed general interest to buy new chips and new MBs?

People might not really care to upgrade their P4-2gz into a P4-3gz but into a dual core...I think the general public might...specially seeing as video capture devices (mobile phones) and thus cpu-heavy video editing tools mature and become more commonly available and used by the public.

Let's not even talk about the workstation/corporate market...with the greater momentum of virtualization software (VMWare, MS V Server, etc...) multi cores are a must.

What do you think? Do you really think MB shipments are "Falling off a Cliff"?

Motherboard manufacturers have to keep up with all the new sockets, video expansion slots, and form factors that companies are dreaming up, they're never short of work :D

They can't be. Xmas is the time when most people will buy/build computers, other than right after a new product release. Since you need a MoBo to build a computer, the market should not be suffering.
People may want to get dual core, but I think the problem is that prices of all components, not necesarily MoBos are ridiculous now. RAM in particular, but cpu prices aren't getting any lower, I don't think I've ever seen a price trend in cases or psus... and video cards only get the occasional rebate or awesome deal... hopefully that will change with the onset of DX10. Really, high prices do something to affect demand, but it shouldn't be enough to majorly affect an entire market.
You should not worry about stagnating MoBo prices, since the mfgs sell so many MoBos, it's not a consideration.
Welcome to the forums!:D

It may be because computer shipments are slowing down in anticipation of Vista.
