MB/PSU problems!

I have a Asus Striker Extreme and a Thermaltake 850 PSU.

When I connect the main power to the MB it powers up fine but the other power cable I am using out of the PSU to run my water cooling pump, lights etc do not. Now using the same power supply and completing the circuit with a paper clip everything works fine.

Any clue as to what I am missing and why I get no power out of the same connection when the main is in the MB?

Its a pretty big problem since powering up the MB with no pump on to run the liquid cooling gives me oh what 5 seconds to fried chip!

Help much appreciated! Thanks!

Would seem strange to me that the MB and one MCP 655 pump would overload an 850W PSU.

What do you mean by polarity? Would it change from when I have the paper clip competling the circuit to plugging the PSU into the MB?

maybe it need some load on the cable? if there are more connecters on the cable try to plug one into a harddrive and one into the pump.

No luck still.

Still nothing with the MB plugged. I did use a paperclip and ran three hard drives on both SATA and standard power. Thing will power fine with two but shuts off with three.

Think this is a bunk PSU?

I would expect a little more umph from an 850W PSU.
