MB problems!!

I have a 430TX MB and a pentium 200MMX mounted on it. The PC after running for some time restarts itself and continues doing so. I have windows 98 loaded. I have to switch off the PC for some time before I can get back to working but then it starts again. I have checked my battery and have cleared my CMOS by changing the jumpers and setting them back again. Help

By "restarts itself and continues to do so", do you mean it resets in an infinite loop?

Try checking if everything is seated completely, particularly the RAM.
Could it be that the cpu is overheating?

Just some ideas.

I have seen this happen on older systems. Look in the power supply to see if there is a lot of build up of dust. Take off cover of power supply "unplugged" and blow out with compressed air. Do Not touch ony componet!
This happened on a friend of mines computer. He had upgraded a 386 box a couple of times. It would reboot randomly. When the power supply got hot enough it would shut off, then almost immedately it would cool enough then start a reboot. A couple of times it got hot enough that it shut down for several minutes. He hasn't had that problem since.

Thanks a lot SemperFi,
So far So good. Let me see if PC works continuously. There indeed was a lot of dust build up in my Power Unit. My whole room was full of dust after that.

Hi AC,

Thanks for the sugesstions and ah yes the PC goes into an infinite loop. Checked the seatings of the RAM and all cards and dusted the Power Unit too.

Thanks again
Rajat🙂

Hi Motorheader,

Hmmm....... the cooling issue is not a problem as my PC is in an AC environ and the cover is almost always off. But there was a lot of dust build up inside the power Unit. I had it cleaned and it now seems to be OK.

Thanks anyway
