I'm building a new server and upgrading from SW Raid-5 to HW Raid-5. I'll be getting either a Q9300 or a Q9450 in Jan. I have 4x 1GB SATAII drives on order and an x800xl for graphics.

I will be using this system for video editing mostly but also some photo editing (batch jobs). It will also be my video server.

I had been looking at the Bad Axe 2 MB with the 975 chipset but read it doesn't support Penryn. (I saw an article with a HW mod to get it to work with one.)

I looked at the P35's, but reading the block diagram, it only has one PCI-e port on the MCH. It cannot split it in to two x8, so the other port is on the ICH. Instinctively, this just seem like it would add latency and possibly cause bandwidth issue if i add a RAID-1 OS disk solution to the ICH SATA controller.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with using either the LSI raid or the 3ware raid card? I'd like to have some good MB recommendations so i can have everything ready to go when i get the penryn.

thanks
