MB for i5 4670k Overclock

Hi guys, I have my own build and I am currently thinking of overclocking my 4670k. Only problem is I have a very budget friendly motherboard installed right now that costed me ~$50 (MSI H81) so I'm pretty positive I need to upgrade(?) before trying to overclock. My budget is around 150$ but thats with the cooler im gonna get included. I've done some research and I'm gonna get the cooler master evo 212 which is ~$30 but I need the right MB. I've seen people recommend z87's and z97's but I'm not sure which to go with so any help would be appreciated. I also am wondering how easy/hard it is to overclock my processor by myself or if I should get some help from a friend (im not too great with installing parts/doing things like oc'ing yet)

Z97 is newer and has some new features, though probably more expensive. Either chipset will provide ability to overclock.

ASRock makes some very solid low cost boards, though I don't think you can go wrong with Asus, Gigabyte or MSI.

Z97 tends to result in slightly higher overclocks.

That's a good board, but this one is slightly better and a bit cheaper (after rebate)

If you just wanna overclock that thing on air, I'd say Biostar Hi-Fi z87x
or even if you wanna LN2 it on a budget..same thing..
It's a nice board..better than any AsRock short of OCF
just shy of the Giga ..seems like that one's some kinda overclock, too..

It definitely will handle anything you need it to on air..and then some.

That's interesting -- about the BioStar. I checked the customer reviews at the Egg, to see what frustrations they snagged in the "one-egg" and "two-egg" division.

I have sort of kept track of several motherboard "customer-profiles," or the % distribution among the five egg categories. 71% in the 5-egg category is among the better I'd seen to remembrance.

I'd never have thought to buy a BioStar board for myself. So a person has to wonder if it's really possible to get value in a budget board.
