Here are some parts I had laying around. Trying to scrape together a Crysis 3 playable system. Any suggestions for a Motherboard? I'm pretty rusty these days. My budget is $100 - $125. I'm open to getting one off eBay or 'Open-Box'. - Thanks in advance

i7-950 - Xeon W3550 Quad core 3.06GHz LGA1366 (bx80601W3550)
2GB GTX 760
300GB VelociRaptor 10k RPM
600w Thermaltake - TR2-600W

If they still have them (shows in stock) this Acer Predator is X58 and inexpensive.

Nice find but I'm reading that the MB has a tendency to burn out on higher end graphics cards like the GTX 760... ugghh.. thought I had a winner! :) x58 Motherboards are friggin expensive... wth!?!

yea, they are expensive now for some reason. I seem to recall about 2 years ago, a lot of them were going for $100 at auction. The chips are still really cheap though.

Kinda the same with lga775 now that i think about it.

I will check my local PC repair shops and see if they have one in a pile somewhere. Sometimes you get lucky.

x58's are carrying a premium because a lot will accept the 6 core xeon chips such as the L5639 or x5650 etc... These chips are overclocking to 4ghz+ on all 6 cores!

If you can find a Foxconn Bloodrage they are excellent boards. Have two with L5639's at 4.4ghz...

Where did you read the motherboards "burn out" from high end video cards.? If it's a high end card, it has it's own power feeds & shouldn't be an issue. You're going to be hard pressed to find a new or refurbished X58 board at that price.

*** Correction *** That motherboard issue was unique to a sole owner of this motherboard. I could not confirm his claim.

I did go back to look at it again and there is a $45 s/h on the MB from that vendor. Shipping from Hong Kong I think... uughhh.. if I'm gonna pay that much for the a x58 motherboard, I might as well pay a little more and get the Intel Extreme Series BOXDX58SO for $135 on eBay.

I still have visited the local PC repair shops yet... if I cant find a decent x58 MB then I will go with the DX58SO.

Dell Precision T3500 boards are $50 delivered (in the US) on ebay.
Search T3500 MOTHERBOARD DP/N 9KPNV K095G XPDFK LGA1366 DDR3

Actually you can get a complete T3500 "Barebones" Mid Tower with board & 80+ certified 525 watt power supply, ready for your CPU, RAM, drives & video card, for what you'll spend on that Intel board ($135)
Just search "T3500 barebones" on ebay.
Tower, board & PS, not bad for the money.. Just add your parts & Game away! ;)
