I'm just about to upgrade to Z77 and have decided to order a 3770K and put it in a Fractal Design Define R4 case.

I'm not up really up to date and am reading reviews and forums all day long trying to figure out which board to get.

Money isn't really an issue - and I'd rather pay a little extra for quality. The machine will be with me a couple of years.

I will OC just a bit in the beginning - trying to keep the noise down. But I'll probably OC more agressivly later on when I feel it's getting old and slow.

Going with a single gfx card initially, upgrading to SLI when needed.

Thunderbolt - is it hot or not? Can this be bought as an expansion card later or does the MB have to support it? I haven't got any TB peripherals yet but who knows in a year or two.

I'm gonna use my rig for gaming but also to do some video and music production.

OS on SSD and 2 x HDD in RAID0 for storage.

I'd go for a ASUS P8Z77 V-Pro.

Reliability and one of the best UEFI BIOS's around.

If you want a thunderbolt motherboard your looking at upwards of £200 and more. Its not something I would reccomend to anyone at this time. USB 3 more than enough for external hard drives. If you have more specialist kit then it would not do you any harm to look into it further.

asus allows for tack on t-bolt but has not started selling the tack on part.

I would consider the maximus v gene

my reasons are it is a well built board it will give you room in the case as it is a matx not an atx.

this board is supposed to become t-bolt upgrade able. asus blends well with its own soundcards xonar

and the stock sound chip has decent reviews

The Asus P8Z77-V Pro is a good board. You might also take a look at the new Intel® Desktop Board DZ77RE-75K which does come with Thunderbolt. This is one of our new Extreme boards and has a UEFI Bios that works very well.

Decided to go with ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE.
Now the hunt for the quitest CPU cooler starts :)

Great choice!

Cooling wise depends what you want to do with it. Not looked a great deal into it but I would choose between the Arctic Cooling i30 and BeQuiet! Darkrock Advanced.

Those would be my stock choices, if your clocking up there are better solutions out there for ivy.
