Hello all,

I have spent the last few days reading through as many thread as I could and I still need some advice. I have a nForce4 MB die and on first testing, it looked like my E6600 was fine, but after another test, it too is gone.

This may be my last upgrade for a while, in Jan., my wife and I are expecting our first child. So while I have the time and money ;) I need to get a new MB and CPU.

I mostly play games on this computer, and do some video encoding but not much.
I do not want to overclock, I will leave it at stock speed.

I have a Dell 24" monitor, and I try to play at 1900x1200.
also 8800 GTX.

So between these three, which would you go with?

e6850
q6600
q6700

I will be playing some old games and a few of the new ones:

BF2142
Company of Heroes
World in Conflict
C&C III
Crysis
ET: Quake Wars
Sup Com

Thank you for any help/advice

If it's going to be your last upgrade for a while, go for a decently-overclockable P35 motherboard and Q6600.

Edit: processors don't "die" very often, unless they're zapped by static or overclocked to the brink of destruction. Just curious, how do you know for sure the processor is dead?

Congratulations, and good luck with the child.

Well, he/she will be your main "game" after January - the Quad is probably the best option then...

I would send both in for warranty. You don't say what happened, but if both don't have any burn marks, then maybe you can get replacements.
