MB CPU Fan Connector

Does it matter if no fan is connected to the assigned cpu fan connector on the MB? I just picked the Asus Maximus Formula and the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme cooler and added the Scythe SFLEX 120mm fan to keep it cool but going through a mock install I noticed the CPU fan connector on the board is 4 prong but the fan is a 3 prong. Is it ok just to connect it to one of the optional 3 prong fan connectors?

Thanks

You can plug the 3-pin fan into a 4-pin motherboard header. You'll see a plastic guide on the header that will only allow you to connect it the right way.

If you plug it into one of the optional headers, make sure you disable any CPU fan speed monitoring settings in the BIOS.
