MB: Abit BE6-11 Mass storage controller, help please

Here is my problem:
I installed an Abit BE6-11 mb, 550 intel processor, 128 megs ram, (hd with w98 from another pc) cd/rom, floppy, video card, etc.

The mb does NOT recognize the cd/rom.

In the hardware device manager, I have the yellow icon, with the ? mark on the PCI mass storage controller.

I've searched the web, and I can't seem to find the driver for that controller.

The only way I can install anything is using the floppy drive.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you,
Raymond

i'm assuming your IDE cables connected properly and they are in fine working condition...

not sure if you have flashed the mobo's bios or not, but perhaps if it is a newer cd-rom, you might want to try that. and although this has nothing to do with your problem, why wouldn't you use a fresh install of the OS anyway?

also, see this thread...

Thank you for the link, and your time.

I didn't install a new O/S, as I don't have an external drive.

I read everything possible, at that link, and I don't see the solution to my problem.

Take care,
Raymond

I downloaded and installed the updated bios, today, and it did NOT solve the problem.

Thank you for your time,
Raymond
