Mazdaspeed6 > Legacy GT Spec.b

Doesn't the Mazda also have a heat issue?

I like both cars though regardless. They're great performers and they lack the riced-out image of WRX/Evos etc 🙂

At least Edmunds got the performance numbers right. If I recall, their STi/GTO comparo had both those cars running similar times to the MS6 and spec. B

Supposedly... but I havent seen evidence of it yet, and have owned mine since december...

And you live in a cold place (at least cold in the time you've owned the car)......you just refuse to even acknowledge that!

Granted, I do believe this is the only comparo where the 6 has beaten the LGT😉

Yeah, that's why I don't want to say anything 100% certain about it. I've read about it happening, but nothing glaring.

IIRC, Motor Trend did overall choose the LGT but it was a close race as here.

As mentioned in the article, the improvements offered by the Spec.B are a bit too little for the huge price increase. I hear of regular LGT's going off the lot for around $25K...

Also, the Legacy was top rated in IIHS' latest safety tests making this one of the safest cars on the road.

To each his own, everyone has their allegiances, but I personally can't wait to get an LGT 😀

I got mine for 24.2 (no leather) but I could have got a limited for 900 more. This was a year ago. Glad I didn't wait otherwise I'd be stuck with an ugly taupe interior.

I read that article weeks ago. A completely and absolute joke, like all the recent "reviews" from Edmunds. They literally have no credibility left anymore. The Legacy absolutely spanks the MS6 in all the performance tests, but loses the slalom by one whole mph and so they find a convenient excuse to crum on the Spec.B's suspension and hand the award to the MS6. It's pretty obvious who's paying the advertising dollars over there...

Mazda just knows how to build great handling cars. Subaru now being under Toyota's wing, I don't see a Subaru handling better than a similar Mazda any time soon. 😀

This is quite frankly one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read in a car thread here...

Certainly one of the most incorrect.

Put down the crack pipe and walk away slowly. We'll pretend this incident didn't happen.

Wow.....just wow.....

Aww you poor Subie fanbois.... whine all you want... the MS6 does without a doubt handle better than your more expensive spec.Bs....

P.S. but yeah the STI does pretty much own Mazda...

Taken from the review:

Performance
Mazda Mazdaspeed 6 Subaru Legacy GT spec.B
Zero-to-60-mph acceleration, sec. 6.1 5.7
Quarter-mile acceleration, sec. 14.3 14.1
Quarter-mile speed, mph 95.7 96.5
60-to-0-mph braking, feet 113 123
600-ft slalom, mph 68 67

I'll stick with my GT thank you very much.

I don't think anyone is saying it does; I'm sure the Mazdaspeed6 handles awesome and probably better than the LGT. But (A) the LGT is aimed at a more sedate driver than those wanting STI's or Mazdaspeed6's and (B) the $25K LGT has 95% the handling of the Spec.B and is near $10K less than the Speed6.

If car publications want a more equal comparison, IMO an STI vs Speed6 would be better fit. Still, the LGT competes nicely against a car designed to be more "sporty" than "luxury," is faster in a straight line, cheaper, and let's not get into what you could do to an LGT with the $9K you save over the Speed6 😛

I don't own a spec B but I'm sure the <$1000 in mods I've done more than accounts for handling differences and most of that was for tires.

Yeah and that's the really big thing. The spec B has a huge premium on it. It is really hard to justify it over the regular Legacy GT.

I'll admit... having just dumped 28K on my MS6 I am certainly a Mazda fanboi for the time being...

HOWEVER having said that... I think you must not have driven a MS6... it doesnt compare to the STI, it is very much inline with the Legacy GT... it is meant as an undercover sports car just like the GT.

And as for price... perhaps I'm a bit confused as to why you see the GT as 9K cheaper than the MS6...

MSRP listed at KBB for the Legacy GT(non spec.B) is 29,420 to start while the MS6 is showing 28,555 to start. Looks to me like the MS6 is 1K cheaper than the GT, unless you're talking about the 175hp GT... which I have to assume you're not...

I am quite sure that the huge 1 mph difference in the slalom can be attributed to the RE92 tires on the Legacy.

I swear... I want to see the incriminating pictures that Bridgestone MUST be holding as blackmail against some Subaru top brass to make them put those crappy-ass tires on almost all their models.

I don't doubt your GT is a sweet ride... but I'm pretty sure I've got you beat in the handling department... despite your mods.... but whats really the point of that comparison anyway. GT+mods vs MS6 stock.... hrmmm doesnt seem valid to me. Maybe in the context of your car vs my car, but the topic of this thread is MS6 vs Legacy GT spec.B
