interesting read, mysterious power loss, audible detonation on 93 octane/cool ambient temps, 205 WHP from a 280 HP rated car. . .

Looks like more then one person is having the same issues. I doubt it's a lemon. How much does 100+ octane gas cost anyway?

I don't think it's a universal issue....

I've had my MSP6 for a month now, and I've had 0 problems... I always put 93 in it...

I've sat in some pretty nasty bumper to bumper stop and go traffic in reasonable weather... and when I finally got free of traffic I encountered no problems whatsoever.

you should expect about a 15% HP loss at the wheels from the rated HP. I t sounds like it might indeed be tuned too aggresively for 93 octane, but I think its probably just a flaw in that particular vehicle, a manufacturer with Mazda's experience wouldn't kowingly put out a vehicle with such a serious flaw

It sounds like Mazda knew that the production engine wasn't meeting their performance claims, so they cut into their safety margin in order to extract every last bit of power they could.

The also failed to meet the performance claims of the Miata and the RX-8.

This car is AWD, so the drivetrain loss will be much higher than that. It will probably have 20-25%.
