the 6 cylinder is the duratec V6 with a couple mazda designed bits to make it breate a bit better.
iirc, the duratec was first used in the mondeo as a 2.5 liter unit.

No, the 2.0L engine in the Protege5 is from a different engine family. It has nothing in common with the 2.3L in the Mazda6. You're right about the Japan part. The current Protege5, along with several other Mazda models, are still manufactured in Japan. This is slowly changing, as its cheaper to assemble the cars stateside. Mazda is moving more of their vehicles to U.S. plants, Flat Rock, MI being the main one right now.Originally posted by: milagro
