MAZDA 3 stock stero setup

Does anyone know about the MAZDA 3's stock stereo setup? Can it support ex) a 10" subwoofer without having to buy an amplifier.

I know it depends on the wattage and all, but i was wondering if anyone has done it.

ahhhh....so it's confirmed. it is impossible? I have to get an amp no matter what? I was hoping to get away without having to buy an amp.

you need an amp to power the sub. A sub is going to require ~100 watts RMS power to sound right. Your stock stereo might put out 10 watts per channel. You can try a bass tube like someone suggested, but they really are designed for hatchbacks.

Almost no stock car system will have the wattage required to just "add a sub". Those things move way, way too much air without some designated power to them. Stock stereos with a built in sub have their own amp 🙂

You won't have enough power from your deck. You need an amp and you can get an amp setup to work with a stock system without RCA outputs. You'll be amplifying a not so clean signal, so that's up to you.

thanks for all the input. anandtech is great. looks like i'll have to get an amp. how much does it run anyhows for a mediocre setup? amp and woofer and whatever else is needed + installation.

i have something in the works for buying subs right now(8") but i will pm you that.

also, an amplifier is not that much depending upon what power you get. i dont think www.thezeb.com carries the US acoustics line ne more. also, other amps, like a sony amp is perfectly fine, just dont overpay, and dont read max power, read RMS.

dosent need them with a line out converter 🙂

depending on what you buy..

12" alpine type-s runs around 100 off of ebay
300 watt alpine amps can be picked up for ~150 off of ebay
make your on box, ~30 to 50 bucks depending on how you make it

or you can do what others said and get a infinity bass link, which already has an amp, or a bazooka tube, there also might be a qform box for your car that includes a sub and amp. check crutchfeild for applications on your specific car.

Hmm. Were I in your situation, I would probably build a vented (bass reflex) box with a decent 12" driver with a 150-300W amp.
