Mazda 3 overrated?

I think it's just sticker shock for anyone that's been driving for awhile. I'm not that old but I can remember when a stripper Civic was around 11K msrp. 20K used to buy you a loaded car.

I agree.

In 2004, $26k bought you a 200HP, 6-speed Acura TSX with perforated leather, heated seats, CD changer, dual zone climate, moonroof, xenon HID headlights, etc.

In 2014, $26k only buys you a Mazda3 with pretty much the same features, but with less power, and less space inside. And of course no Acura badge.

You are assuming that the Mazda3 is only sold at MSRP, and cannot be purchased for less to make your point. So I guess we are both not being completely truthful.

Right now Mazda is not offering money to move the Mazda3. They don't have to, but when sales start to drop off, we will see lease and purchase incentives. Then the point will be moot, because people will be able to buy the 3 discounted, just like they can the other makes/models mentioned in this thread.

Did you not read my post? All the prices I posted are current street prices based on Truecar.

Having driven both of these cars when looking for our new car this year, I challenge you to sit down in a 2014 Jetta, and then sit in a Mazda 3s Grand Touring and tell me with a straight face that the Jetta has a better interior.

pretty sure i covered that...

not quite as nice inside but less expensive than the jetta (gen iv - v, latest gen is decontented).

the jetta iv was nicer inside than my gen i mazda3. and afaik the jetta v didn't take any steps back in that regard. the current mazda3 may be nicer inside than the jetta v was, i haven't spent any real time in it (plopped down in one at the auto show and noted to myself how easy it was to find a comfortable driving position, as opposed to practically every other car maker).

I'm biased but my MS3 was probably the best priced (new) vehicle I've come across.

Last year they were going on the lot around 21k before TTL

Can't find anything in that pricing area, especially for what you get with the non-tech package. Bluetooth, bose, part leather, 18" wheels (arguably the best stock wheels in that pricing area), etc, all standard.
