Has anyone bought Maytag Kitchen appliances over the past couple of years? If so, how are they holding up?

I have various Maytag appliances currently in my house which are 10 years old, and they've served me well. I am redoing my kitchen in stainless appliances. I have a set of Maytag appliances picked out and are priced right. Is their quality any good these days? Reading reviews on appliances you would think that all appliance brands totally suck, and are basically 5-6 year throw away items. I was all set to spend more money on a Frigidaire set, but people complain about those too... compressors, electronic boards , etc going out in a couple years. seems to be the same stuff.. different brands.

I looked through Consumers Reports.. and their info seems a little weak.

Alas, I can't remember who owns which brand.

However, which ever choose, never buy the cheapest of the line.

yeah, something about Whirlpool buying the Maytag brand and its not what it used to be. We are looking at near top of the line Maytags.. but I don't want to end up with thousands of dollars of crap.

Whirlpool owns Maytag and Roper, and some Kenmore stuff. Electrolux owns Frigidaire, and some Kenmore stuff. GE is GE...

Two Maytag refrigerators in the family... they both suck.

My dad's is about ten years old. In the first few years it went through two compressors and a control board, iirc. He bought the extended warranty so that did him some good but it's still a PITA to deal with spoiled food. It's been fine lately I think so maybe the first round of parts were shit and the newer ones are better.

My grandparent's Maytag is pretty new and has already gone through a couple control boards. The repair tech said he's replaced a bunch of them and thinks Maytag eff'd it up by putting the control board in a spot that's way too humid. They don't trust it anymore so now that expensive fridge is relegated to just keeping drinks cold in the garage. Can't remember what they replaced it with.

Other appliances from them have been fine though. I have a Maytag washer that's great. But we've been burned with their refrigerators.

Whirlpool and it's related brands don't seem to be all that great a quality. Our Stove and Dryer are both Whirlpools. The stove is mostly dead and the dryer is dying as well.
The new stove we're getting is a Hotpoint (GE). We've heard GE appliances hold up better.

I was thinking that GE appliances were good..maybe good marketing.. but they had a pretty high rate of failure according to Consumers Reports. Based on CR's report.. it looks like around 10% give or take several points for various brands.. have major problems. That's nuts. 1 out of 10 people will have a major problem with their appliances. crappy.
